in honor of Mark Gallagher
An RCMP Regimental Funeral is scheduled to be held on Thursday, January 28/10, at St. Gertrude's Roman Catholic Church in Woodstock. More details regarding visitation and the funeral service are to be released Monday, January 25/10.
Sadly RCMP Sgt. Mark Gallagher was found dead in the debris of his Haitian home. He was a victim of Tuesday's massive earthquake in Haiti. Mark's immediate family are his wife Lisa and their children Shane and Heather. He will be deeply missed by his loving family, friends and fellow RCMP officers.
This is Sgt Mark Gallagher's bio from:
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/mem/gallagher-bio-eng.htm
Sergeant (Sgt.) Gallagher joined the RCMP on January 18, 1998, after thirteen years with the Moncton Police in New Brunswick (August 28, 1985).
Sgt. Gallagher spent eight years in New Brunswick in a variety of policing roles including general policing and community policing/victim services. Mark was promoted to Corporal in 2004 while serving in Jacquet River, New Brunswick.
In 2007, Sgt. Gallagher was promoted to the rank of Sergeant as the Media Relations Officer for the province of Nova Scotia. It was through this position that Mark developed close relationships with journalists, community members and policing partners. Sgt. Gallagher was responsible for communicating the RCMP’s message throughout Nova Scotia and upholding a positive image of the force; a job which he took a great amount of pride in and thoroughly enjoyed.
On July 7, 2009, Mark deployed to Haiti on a nine-month United Nations Peacekeeping mission. His duties in Haiti included working on Project Coordination. This was his first United Nations mission.
Sgt. Gallagher was passionate about assisting those in need and always found opportunities to serve his community. His love of the French language was a perfect fit for his deployment to work with the people of Haiti.
In 2002, Sgt. Gallagher was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Commemorative Medal and earned the Police Exemplary Service Medal.
An avid boating enthusiast, Mark enjoyed being out on the water with family and friends in tow. Sgt. Gallagher leaves behind his wife Lisa and their two children, Heather and Shane.

I remember meeting Mark for the first time 20 years ago. He was an inspiration to me then and will continue to be so. His spirit lives on through his work that helped so many people have a better life. He touched so many lives in a positive way and we can only hope to carry on his work ourselves by reaching out and helping the people who need us in our own communities. Rest in Peace Mark!

Lisa,
My heart goes out to you. It is so hard to lose your husband. My husband Harvey and I wired your house in Pinehurst, Moncton. Harvey died not too long after that from a heart attack. My prayers are with you and your family. Deanna, who taught at Sunny Brae School as supply, is also saddened at your loss. Mark was so well liked by everyone with whom he came in contact. May he rest in peace.

To Lisa and her family?
My heart goes out to all of you.
I remember meeting Mark many MANY years ago when, his wife, Mrs G was my teacher in grade 7 at RCS. I remember going to their home, he was very sweet to all us kids that had invaded his house.
That was my first encounter, with meeting a police officer. For a little tiny grade 7 kid, he seemed like a very big man. It was a vert good and memoral meeting.
Very fondly remembered from a Riverside friend. <3

Uncle Mark, even now I shake my head in disbelief that you are gone. I can still remember your gentle hand pushing me towards my dream, and I will always remember the advice you gave me. When I graduate from the Military Police Academy, and I dedicate my badge to you. I only hope I can touch a nation like you did, and leave behind a legacy.
